Continued with the teaching of my eldest son with the curriculum ACE, I need to reinforce the cursive writing for the English book (PACE). During the time that I teach in Puerto Rico, I also teach de cursive writing to my students, cursive writing is a good skill to expedite the students writing. I started to created worksheets for practice and reinforce the cursive writing before he do it the book. The English book (PACE) teaches de cursive letters uppercase and lowercase separates and in alphabetic order. Honestly, I preferred that the student learn first de cursive vowels and the consonants, because, in that way, they can write words more fastened than other ways. Also is good for the students to see the relationship between the uppercase and the lowercase cursive letters. Another way to teach cursive is teaching the letters in groups with similar tracings. The most important things in learning cursive are:
- The student must learn the correct paces in the correct order to form the cursive letters in the notebook guided lines.
- The student needs to have a guided paper with the alphabet letters in cursive and the paces to write it with numbers or arrows, this will be a guide for the student when he forgets the correct form to write the letters in cursive.
- The student needs to practice the letter with traces before he wants to write because he needs to learn the correct paces for write each letter.
- Never lift the pencil of the paper when writing in cursive, until finish the word to add letters features like dots ((i,j), lines (T,t,J,F,X,x) and punctuations marks (. , : ; ! ?)
- Remember that the paper when write cursive must be sideways and not right on the desk.
A good manner to practice the cursive letters is on a board with markers (especially fine point), because the markers slip easily in the board when they write in it, and is easy to eraser the mistakes. Then when the student learns to write the letter correctly, they can try to trace first and then write in the notebook with a pencil.
